Residents of west side neighborhoods like Logan Square, Avondale, Bucktown and Humboldt Park take note: the once defunct Humboldt Park beach will reopen in early August with a full slate of activities. According to DNAinfo, festivities will kick off Aug. 5 and will feature movie screenings (“Jaws” and “Finding Nemo” among them) and a live performance called Fantasmagorie that will combine dance, music and visuals on floating platforms in the lagoon. (Those performances will take place on Friday and Saturday nights through Aug. 6 and are best viewed from the Boathouse.)
The restoration of the Humboldt Park beach was led by a group of residents who wanted to restore the beach after the Chicago Park District closed it last year due to expenses.
